The on-screen keyboard on my iPad Air 2 doesn’t always register or show spaces.

Nothing happens - it’s like I’m not tapping the space bar. Sometimes spaces are normal, other times I must tap the space bar several times before it displays a space.  Sometimes the portion of the screen displaying the keyboard turns white and completely blanks out for a second when I tap the spacebar.

Before the Apple Store shutdown I visited the Genius Bar. My local Apple store hasn’t seen this problem before.  This isn’t a problem with just one device; this has migrated from my Air 2 iPad with iOS 11 and continues with the iOS 13 updates.  I purchased an iPad mini 4 and the problem affects it as well.  I purchased a 2019 model iPod touch and noticed this same problem while setting it up.
