Teach spell-check a name

How can I teach iPhone spell-check a name? (in iOS 13)

Hundreds of times it has changed “Sue” to “Sure”, and “Tim” to “Tom”. My five-year-old could do better!

The remedy posted on this forum in 2010 does not work.

The Swype app had a “do not predict this again” facility. Anything similar in Apple slide-to-type?

Hi carrt7,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you'd like to be able manage the Auto-Correction feature to stop replacing some proper names to common words.

I'm glad to help with this.

If predictive text isn't learning that you want to use these proper names, you can use the text replacement feature to add in a proper name, and then use a shortcut for that name.

This explains more: How to use Auto-Correction and predictive text on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Hope this helps!

Thanks HJ.

Yes, text replacement gives me a work-around. Thanks.

But being unable to blacklist a word is still a pain! I can use "Sc" as a shortcut for "Sue", works fine. But when I try "Tc" as a shortcut for "Tim", slide-to-type insists on converting "Tc" to "Tv", 20 times out of 20, however carefully I slide-type.

Also, my iPhone 8+ often converts "and" into "abs". This really slows down progress!

If there's anywhere to vote, please put me down in favour of a word-blacklist option, similar to the Skype "do-not-predict" option. (One can still type in the forbidden word letter-by-letter, to over-ride the blacklist.)
