Numbers updates and compatibility between versions

Hi everyone,

I have been trying to share Numbers files with my father who has an old Macbook Air.

He recently went to an Apple Support Store and they told him that they updated his Software to the last version it can be updated to. Still, he can not open the documents I send him.

He has a MacBook Air (Mid 2011) updated to macOS High Sierra, version 10.13.6, Numbers ‘09, Version 2.3 (554)

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, Early 2015) updated to macOS Catalina, version 10.15.3, Numbers Version 10.0 (6748)

Have we missed updates needed or does anyone know of a way we can work on the same Numbers files?

Thank you!

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.15

I think you are both updated as far as you can go but it doesn't close the "gap".

Numbers '09 cannot open file formatted as the newer "Numbers 10" format. You should export the file using the Numbers menu item "File > Export To > Numbers '09…"

then send that file to your father
