I went through the entire upgrade process to Ventura. There were no error messages and it eventually rebooted and is working. But the version number still read Monterey.
Is this just a bug in the Mac About page or did I not upgrade?
Btw, I only upgraded the OS and not Safari. Does Apple force you to upgrade Safari too?

I actually clicked on the upgrade button again to see what would happen and it downloaded another 3.8GB and went through the entire process form last time of rebooting and running for another 15 minutes. It looks like I now have Ventura.

If About This Mac still shows Monterey, you didn’t run the installer once you downloaded it.
The Installer of Ventura should appear in the Applications folder.
Is it still appearing there ?
It should be about 12.26 GB in size
As mentioned, upGrading from Monterey to Ventura would have downloaded a whopping 12.26 GB installer.
It is possible and from the description in above, the User may have been mistaken and infuse Ventura 13.0.1 was installed.
There after the " 3.8GB " may have been the upDate from Ventura 13.0.1 to Ventura 13.1

I never saw the 12GB download. I had two downloads of 3.8GB
You get a small download if you are running an older OS. It downloads the rest during install.
Once you have installed the OS, any subsequent download will be the full size. You can’t make a USB installer from the small download.
I never saw the 12GB download. I had two downloads of 3.8GB and two reboots taking about 20 mins each. My version is Ventura 13.1 now, so I guess it worked.
After upgrade downloaded 3.8GB, it rebooted and ran for another 15 to 20minutes with the monitor turning off and on. It seemed like it ran through the install after the reboot.
After upgrading to Ventura successfully, my version still shows Monterey 12.6.2
