I had to change my apple ID with a new email and password. I did not create a new one. My Mac wont let me sync to my phone, it associates with my old Apple ID but if i sign out i'll lose my music, photos and documents. Please help!

I would alway keep everything I could in iCloud or iCloud Drive backed up to an external drive and an alternative cloud, say Dropbox Plus. Rather than using an external you could put everything in a new folder with subfolders in your Home folder, but I'd use an external. iCloud/iCloud Drive is billed as being a syncing system--which it is. But, sometimes is not a particularly good backup system.
Thank Eric. Someone suggest I take everything out of that iCloud Drive since I couldn’t sign into it. Should I put it all back in the drive before signing out and signing back in with the new ID?
You are welcome. I don't think it matters if you copy it back before or after the change.
So if I have documents photos and music on my Mac but not in iCloud they won’t be deleted on my Mac?
If they are on the Mac and not syncing to iCloud, they shouldn't be deleted.
