My iPhone XS Max has a black screen but is still on.

Force restart the iPhone as follows:

• Press and quickly release the volume up button
• Press and quickly release the volume down button
• Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears

Then very likely the iPhone has hardware damage. Visit an Apple Store (when they reopen) or Authorized Apple Service Center. Let them assess the iPhone and advise you how to proceed.

What if this does not work? The screen is still black but the phone is powered on (knowing because i hear the power being plugged in). Is there another fix for this?

This is the second time this has happened in a 3 week span. The last time it happened, I tried this methood all day long and it did not come back on until about 6 hours later and and after numerous times of resetting.
