My oldest daughter has an old Ipad that she doesn't use anymore and we want to reset it to factory settings. Unfortunately we put a restrictions passcode on it and can't remember what it is. I wrote down the code but it doesn't work and I have no clue how to get around this. Help

Connect your iPad to a computer, and select Restore iPad.
that should work, however you need to set it up as new, or else the restrictions passcode will come back and “haunt” you.
