Apple discontinued the iPhone X a year and a half ago.

It's hard to imagine T-Mobile still having new iPhone X units in stock at this time.

Are you sure it was brand new? Could it have maybe been a T-Mobile re-furbished unit that they gave you as new?

You can enter the serial number for it at Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support and see if the warranty is still valid.

If it is, you can send it to Apple for an under warranty repair or replacement (should be free)

See here: iPhone Repair - Official Apple Support

If its not under warranty, then T-Mobile sold you a used device, and your issue is going to be with them.
