Spell Check not working

Hello,

I just sent a resume out that had no spelling errors indicated, only to catch two spelling mistakes later. The word should be caught, no problem - Eduction , without the a. Why is Pages not catching them? I have checked all my settings and automatic spell check is on. Even when I highlight the incorrect word and check spelling, it says no error.

HELP!

In System Preferences : Keyboard : Text panel, set Spelling to your explicit language, not Automatic by Language. You might consider checking Correct spelling automatically in that panel too.

In Pages itself, visit Edit : Spelling and Grammar : Show Spelling and Grammar panel, and change it to your explicit language, rather than Automatic by Language. And finally, in Pages Preferences : Auto-Correction panel, verify that Correct spelling automatically is also selected.

Do you have Edit menu : Spelling and Grammar : √ Check Spelling While Typing?

With all of the above settings enabled, Pages 10 on macOS Mojave 10.14.6 still misses the spelling error in eduction, with or without leading capital. This is likely a word you will have to right-click on and add to the dictionary, though a shameful issue.

Just noticed that there is a noun form (eduction) of the verb educe, so the spell checker will never catch what it knows is a correct spelling. Therefore, no red spelling underline alert from which to Learn spelling.

You could consider a text replacement in System Preferences : Keyboard : Text panel.

For example, when you type edc, it will be replaced by education. Your arbitrary choice of replacement string. With Edit : Substitution : √ Text replacement, you would see the following in Pages when you typed edc:

Any character but an esc or right-arrow followed by a space will replace the edc string with education.
