Stuck on Verifying

I’ve been having this problem for a while every time an update is released. Whenever I try to install an update, it will be stuck on the “Verifying” phase for a minute or two and it will give me a pop-up that says “Unable to Install Update An error occurred installing the latest version of watchOS on you Apple Watch”. I have tried numerous steps, like restarting my watch and my phone, deleting the Software Update via going to the Watch App on my phone, then going to Settings>General>Usage to delete the update then try updating my phone, and even unpair and pair my watch to my phone, with no success. This issue has frustrated me for a very long time to the point where I don’t want to further use my watch. What do I need to do to fix this issue? Thanks in advance!

Hello, Owl24K.

I understand that you are encountering a hiccup when you attempt to Update your Apple Watch. I am exacting when it comes to keeping my own devices updates and am glad to help.

There are a few highlights from the article I linked that I would like to callout.

Before you begin

1. Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
2. Make sure that your Apple Watch is at least 50 percent charged.
3. Connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi.
4. Keep your iPhone next to your Apple Watch, so that they're in range.
It could take from several minutes to an hour for the update to complete. You might want to update overnight or wait until you have time.

It is also important that your Apple Watch stay on its charger during the update. As you have had similar issues in the past, I would also recommend trying to update on an alternate Wi-Fi network.

If your Apple Watch is running watchOS 6 or higher, you can update straight from the Apple Watch.

I hope this helps!

Be Well.

Owl24K,

Thanks for the update. I’m glad to hear you were able to update your iPhone. After updating your iPhone, did you again delete the Apple Watch update and attempt from scratch?

I would also recommend that you restart your router. This can be done by unplugging it for about 30 seconds. If possible, I would also perform the update as close to the router as possible.

You mentioned that you've had this issue before. What did you do in the past to resolve it?

Best Regards.

Surprisingly, there was an update on my phone (which I just updated, as of a few minutes ago) and thought it would help solve my issue, but unfortunately, it did not. My Watch is at full charge (or at least 50% charged), my phone is on a WiFi connection, and both the phone and the watch are in close proximity, as the link says, but I'm still having this issue. I don't have an alternate WiFi connection that I can use, as I only have one Router in the entire house.
