How to update OSX 10.8 to 10.9 in 2020

My macbook pro retina 2012 (13') had some software issues that I tried to resolve them by formatting the internal storage and reinstalling Mac OS. But my mac ended up reinstalling OSX 10.8

Now I need to upgrade it to 10.9 so I can install mac os catalina, but... how can I do this update? It's so hard to find a way to create a bootable USB drive, most of the time I end up in the terminal and I don't have a lot of experience with it.

I'm trying this method (yet to finish). https://www.lewan.com/blog/2012/02/10/making-a-bootable-usb-stick-on-an-apple-mac-os-x-from-an-iso

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and download El Capitan.
