How many back ups are kept in icloud
I was about to erase my iPhone when it asked me if I wanted to back up my files again..if I did that, will my other recent back ups go away?

Yes, iCloud only keeps the most recent backup for each device.
If you want to keep more, use your computer for local backups, then Archive the backups so they don’t get overwritten. Exact instructions vary depending on your OS, but generally you do this from iTunes preferences.
