I phone is locked

I got a new phone and gave my friend my old IPhone. I ported his number in and set up a prepaid unlimited plan with Verizon. Once it was activated I was going to add his gmail and sign in to get an apple ID.. The phone was locked and I have no idea how to get it unlocked. I called apple and was on phone for 2 hours. This is where I wiped the phone and if you forget the password to unlock it you can't retrieve it. They took me into my account where I did see my old phone but she had me release it.. When I went into passwords I could see my old phones. It said I could unlock phone and change my password. But since she had me erase in another place now it is not showing iit.. I am in itunes on a computer connected to my phone and don't know what to do..HELP
