how to download SD versions of HD movie purchases

Recently I been seeing duplicate movie titles of some of my HD movie purchases on the TV App on my Mac.

I buy the HD versions so I can also get the SD versions for free. I usually download the SD version so I can add them to my iPad and or iPhone without taking up to much memory, and I download the SD version of the movie by going to the “purchased” items and deselecting the “download HD” box and then download the SD version.

what I have been seeing is the downloaded movie plus the iCloud version of it (it has the cloud symbol in the lower right side of the movie title).

If I “download” the movie by clicking on the iCloud symbol the HD version starts to download, which I don’t want to download.

I’ve tried deleting the movie from my library and hiding the movie then un-hiding it. I’ve also tried to dragging and dropping the download SD movie to the iCloud movie title (which worked prior the rollout of the new TV App), and that just makes a duplicate show up again.

i’ve tried to change the download quality in the preferences to “up to SD”. I was hoping that doing that and then downloading from the iCloud movie title it would just down load the SD version. It didn’t work and will only download the HD version.

I’ve also tried to sign out of iTunes and then back in but that just added every HD and SD version of all my purchased movies it was a nightmare.

i am open to suggestions in how to fix this.

plus, is it possible to turn off iCloud purchases just on my Mac?

Hey dmule,

I see that you want to download SD versions of your HD movie purchases and stop your library from having duplicate movie titles. I want to look into this and help you out.

Here are the following steps that you can try:

1) Go to the iTunes Store

2) Scroll to the bottom and look under "Features" (it should be at the very bottom where there are options like Explore, Features, Help, Manage....)

3) Click on the "Purchased" option

4) Once in the Purchased menu, select "Movies" or "TV Shows" (whichever you are looking for)

5) In the bottom right corner of the window there is a little check box that say "Download HD When Available", uncheck that box

6) You should see all of your movies and tv shows that have a SD version available to you have a cloud appear in the upper right hand corner of the icon. CLICK THE CLOUD and not the movie icon to download the SD version. If you click the movie icon it will take you to the store page where it offers you the chance to buy the HD and SD version.

7) This should get you the SD versions of the HD movies/TV shows you bought so you can put them on your devices as a smaller file, yet you will still have the HD option for your computer as well.
