Excessive idle battery drain after 13.4.1 update

I updated my iPhone 7 Plus to 13.4.1 earlier this week. Ever since, I am noticing that my battery drains excessively overnight. Here is a screenshot from yesterday night:

As can be seen, the battery was fully charged at 2:22 a.m and the phone was unused until 11:20 a.m. In these 9 hours, battery drained from 100% to 78% with absolutely no use. Even the battery stats don't show any misbehaving apps.

Also, I was checking the settings to understand why it happened, and my battery dropped from 78% to 69% in less than 10 minutes.

All these problems have started after the 13.4.1 update.

Phone: iPhone 7 Plus

Battery capacity: 85%

Anyone else facing this issue?

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 13

It is definitely a software bug. Until 13.4, everything was fine on my phone (iPhone 7 Plus), and there was no problem with battery (Battery health is at 85% for over 6 months now). I always leave everything ON (Bluetooth, mobile data, WiFi, location, etc.) and the battery graph would be flat overnight.

This problem started with 13.4.1, which bought fixes for Bluetooth and FaceTime (ironically I didn't have any problems with either before the update). You can do the following:

1. Turn OFF both Bluetooth and FaceTime from Settings before going to sleep.

2. If the above doesn't help, turn on airplane mode before going to sleep.

In my case, I haven't turned off or tweaked any other setting to save battery. I mean background refresh is allowed for essential apps, location is ON and allowed for essential apps ('always' for Google Photos and 'when using the app' for maps, etc.).

The only thing I do before going to sleep is turn OFF Bluetooth from settings (WiFi stays ON). And my battery holds on well (flat battery graph) until I wake up the phone in the morning.

This is the screenshot from yesterday night:

As can be seen, the battery dropped from 100% to 84% in 6 hours of absolute no use. There are no offending apps either based on the stats.

I’m also noticing that once I start using the phone, the battery drops drastically by about 8 to 10% in the first 10 minutes before stabilising.

I have never seen this kind of a behaviour with my phone in the last 3.5 years of use throughout all the updates over that period.

Sorry to say but on my iPhone 6s turning off bluetooth had no effect on the battery drain. I am running out of ideas.

50 percent loss after 8 hours in powersavemode!

My wife’s iphone 11 pro and her older iPhone X have no problems. They lose one or two percent over night with 13.4.1.

We have an older 5s who cant get ios 13 and with its very poor battery it loses a couple percent over night. Now it performs better than my 6s who got a new battery last year.

I don't know how much this has helped, but post this my battery has shown considerable improvement since updating to 13.4.1 about a month back. I am back to leaving everything ON all the time. Here is last night's battery stats:

That's 3% in over 7 hours.

As someone in this forum said, we don't know if battery draining was due to iOS collecting Covid19 contact data using Bluetooth. Over the course of the month, it may have finished collecting much of the data required and hence battery life has improved. All these are, however, wild speculation.

Sorry, i have not figured those out yet.

I have nothing running that can explain it.

Apple gurus could probably use some software to see exactly what is going on but for now i give it a rest.

Another positive thing about 13.5 is that the phone is much cooler during gaming!

Before it got so hot it throttled down CPU-speed and the game stuttered and i would get my *** kicked.

Now it gets warm but i can no longer fry an egg on it..

I avoided upgrading my 7 Plus from 13.3 due to reading about battery and connectivity issues but my sister gifted me an Apple watch recently (very generous!) and in order to download the watch app to my iPhone I was instructed to upgrade my iOS

.

Ever since I have the same battery drain issue that Sridar describes. I also have never-experienced-before connectivity issues with internet and bluetooth!

Very upsetting. Fwiw I already sent feedback to Apple.
