HomePod automation won't work with streaming audio
Until the most recent update (13.4) I had an automation set on my HomePods (I have 3 in various rooms) to wake me up each morning with streaming my local NPR station (don't even get me started on how that's not an alarm option in the software itself). Basically, my workaround was this: I made an automation that would resume audio at a certain time, and then I made sure to tell my HomePods to "play KPCC (my local NPR station), before going to bed. I would wait till the stream started, then shut it off and go to sleep. In the morning at the appointed time the stream would start again and I would wake up to NPR.
With 13.4 this no longer works. My automation starts on time (I know it does because it involves lights as well), but the audio is silent. As a result I've been oversleeping every day (which luckily isn't a problem right now as there's a global pandemic and no work, but hopefully that will change soon). Any idea why this might be happening, and how I might be able to wake up again to streaming radio?
And Apple, WHY ON EARTH are you unable to give your supposedly "smart" speaker the functionality of a 1970's clock radio?
