Swiping on iPhone 11

Why must I swipe several times to close Waze & other open apps after using on iPhone 11?

Are you referring to just closing the app, or are you asking about force closing apps? To close an app, you just swipe up from the bottom one time to bring you back to the home screen. However, to force closed an app, you swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen to about halfway and release. That will show all suspended apps. You would swipe upwards from there on each one you wish to force closed. However, it is not necessary to force closed apps unless they are malfunctioning. Apps are in a suspended state and do not pose an issue. The one exception is an app that you mentioned, Waze. Seems it runs constantly in the background and requires to be force closed to actually stop working.
