Hi, sometimes when my dad uses the iPad an advertisement about a virus pops up. He’s in safari when that happens. It says a virus has been detected by “Apple security” and, in order to delete it, it tells you to click, download and install a program. I want to know if it’s actually verified, it has never appeared to me before but he showed it to me the other day. I told him not to click it and he didn’t. Can you help me? Is it real? Thanks

It’s a malicious ad trying to trick users into divulging personal info or paying to get out of it.

He is relatively safe from viruses since he’s on an ipad since there is no file manager to install any software (presuming it’s not jailbroken)

Avoid the site if he can. If it keeps coming back he can go into iCloud and turn off syncing for safari, force quit safari, go into the settings and throw away his safari history and that should purge it from his system (just from popping back up, sometimes the ad can reload from the cache)
