Not a question, just saying thank you as this provided the solution to my identical problem.

You need to force-restart the phone:
- Press and quickly release VOLUME UP
- Press and quickly release VOLUME DOWN
- Hold the Side button until an Apple logo appears
I was trying to post a reply to https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250903633 Lawrence Finch, however, the 'Reply' button was not active so I clicked on Ask a Question. I haven't posted on Apple Communities before, just used it for support. As this had been a very helpful solution, I wanted to say thank you.
