Change of pitch and tempo

When I record (voice or guitar), the pitch sometimes changes early in the recording. The tempo is also sometimes altered. What could be going on?

Hey per_1441,

Thanks for the reply and additional information, we appreciate it!

Let's see if we can isolate this issue a bit more.

Does it still happen if you use the internal Mac mic?

Also, test with another user account. If you don't have one set up, the steps are here to make one: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

I'd then recommend contacting Apple Support for GarageBand to look into this further. Let them know what's happening and the troubleshooting that you've completed.

Select Music, App & Services > Mac apps > GarageBand

Take care!

Hi per_1441,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! I see you're having an issue with GarageBand and recording audio, and I'd like to help.

Have you restarted your Mac since noticing this issue? If not, go ahead and do that, as a restart can resolve unusual issues.

Is GarageBand up to date? It looks like the latest version is 10.3.4.

When getting ready to record studio, do you follow the steps in this article? Before recording audio

Does this happen with every recording, or just with a certain project?

Thanks!

Hi PsyDye,

Thanks for taking the time to answer! I am running the latest version 10.3.4. I have an early 2015 macbook pro running OS 10.15.3. I'm using a Behringer UMC404HD to connect to my mac. I tried restarting my mac but the problem persists. The pitch drops and the tempo changes and it is very obvious when I try to record an additional guitar part, for example. The strange thing is, the degree of pitch change isn't very consistent. It's happened in the majority of projects I have started (at least 10). As a test to see where the problem could lie, I've also tried to record using realtime player and downloaded a trial version of Ableton. In both of these other programs, the recordings sound as they should. So I don't think the problem lies in the Behringer unit. Thanks again!
