If you didn't already you can try to reset the SMC and the PRAM: How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support.

Did that countless times. I have several devices on my home wifi including android and windows. They all work just fine but the two Apple devices can't connect with each other or any of the other units. Of course, at this time I can't go back to the store.
This may be a long shot but it worked for me on a Mac Pro mid 2010 running Mojave. Disconnect the iMac from power - as in pull the plug. Same with the MacBook Air - shut it down not just sleep. Wait about 30 seconds and replug and startup.
Learned this trick from one of the Apple techs at the store. I think it forces the bios to reset the PRAM. Hope it works for you.
Yes, this procedure can work on some older Macs. Recent Macs are different. PRAM and SMC can be reset by other means anyways. I didn't suggest that to the OP as I initially thought the "Genius" would have done that upfront. Maybe not afterall ...
Thanks for the feedback,

You can try:
Hold Option+Shift and click on the Bluetooth icon in the Menu Bar. Select Debug > Reset the Bluetooth module.
Were you using an iPhone to share an Internet connection?

Good to know for when I upgrade to a newer MAC. Thanks
Guess I'll wait for things to get back to normal at the store. Thanks for trying.
Did all these things again. No change. Thanks again.
