Touch Bar settings have disappeared from Touch Bar

Hi. My Touch Bar settings have always been the default settings which include Siri, volume control, brightness control etc... A few days ago I noticed that those setting have disappeared from the Touch Bar. I went through the Touch Bar settings in system preferences to add the 'default' settings back to the Touch Bar and then pressed 'done' to confirm adding those settings to the Touch Bar. Once that had been done, the settings I just added to the Touch Bar disappear again and there is a blank space on the Touch Bar where they should be. The Touch Bar still works as it has everything else that usually comes up when you open applications. Im only able to adjust volume and brightness through system preferences which has become a hassle.

Has anyone else had this issue? how did you fix it?

Thanks :)
