Right now when I click on a link in an email my MacBook Pro opens the window using Chrome instead of Safari. How do I set Safari as the default web browser for links in emails? When I go to the Apple icon then to General and try to select a default web browser from the drop down menu I just get a check mark with no browser options listed.

Yes, I did understand that, but it just didn't seem possible, or logical that only one part of the screen of options would be unusable. I can't provide any more ideas until tomorrow. Possibly, someone else will have an idea before then.
As I said in my original post I have tried the steps in the "Make Safari your default web browser on Mac - Apple Suppot I have attached a screen shot of what I get.
