FORMAT VIDEO IPHONE - PROBLEMS ON WINDOWS PC

Hi everybody, I’ve got this kind of problem: when I send (mail especially) my videos to pc windows owners, they can’t watch them because in general they don’t have the right CODEC on their personal computers. I know there are Lot of programs to convert my videos on pc windows but I think it’s a little annoying. I’ ve to suggest to my friends how to convert videos etc...What Do you think about it, is it a false problem? Thanks everybody

Presumably this is about H.264 vs. H.265.


If you send H.265 HEVC .mp4 videos, and some of your contacts can support H.264 AVC .mp4 videos, but not H.265 HEVC, then someone needs to convert.

When you share media using other methods, such as AirDrop, Messages, or email, it might be shared in a more compatible format, such as H.264, depending on whether the receiving device supports the newer media format.

In lots of way, Apple tries to make it automatic, but your workflow may circumvent that inadvertently.


  • You can convert your H.265 HEVC .mp4 (/m4v/mov) videos to H.264 AVC .mp4 (/m4v/mov) using QuickTime Player’s Export function, but that will make the files significantly bigger.
  • Your contacts can install the H.265 HEVC codec, or use a player that has that built-in (e.g. VLC).


If you use a different codec, then please indicate so.
