Contacts grey, green, blue

Reading some old replies to what this means does not make sense for my iPad, as it has no “cellphone” feature, i.e. no SIM card. Therefore I cannot send SMS from it. So my green contacts are still unexplained, as they cannot be contacts I recently sent a text message to. And I do not have an iPhone. IPad is the only Apple device I have.
