My iPhone 4 doesn't like to SYNC music to my Ford

I have a Ford Edge with the SYNC system. My old iPhone 3G worked great with it. My new iPhone 4 works fine for phone calls but won't play music from the phone even when hooked up with the USB cable. When I'm doing it by Bluetooth, I can barely here something playing but mostly just low level static.
Anybody else having this prob and/or know what to do?

I actually never got around to updating to 3.1 before my new iPhone came in, so I can't comment on what that does yet, but so far so good with IP4 and Sync 3.0.

I do agree with rrgunn though, I also turned off the auto download feature haven't had any problems with my phonebook.

For those who mentioned wanting to stop the car from automatically playing music from their iPhone, there is an option in the BT audio menu to turn off autoplay. Did that work for you?

Lastly, I'd like to congratulate Jayne back there on her cleverness, how original!
Sorry Jayne, I love my car and I'd bet it's cuter than yours 🙂

I bought a '10 Ford Flex about 3 months ago and this past week I "discovered" that I can play my ipod music through my Ford's radio via the BlueTooth connection. I've been using the BT with my IP4 with no problem. I was demoing the IP4 ability to connect with a 3.5mm cable and when I disconnected the cable, the ipod music continued to play. All I can say is "TOO COOL". We then tried to do it with my nephew's Android with no success.

My Flex does include the MS sync package.

Regarding Sync, 3 different people at the local Ford dealer told me NOT to plug the iphone into the USB plug on the truck. It would mess up things up. Bluetooth only.

I've having issues with my Sync now, the music will not play. Contacts are moving over, but no music. Sync screen shows it's connected.

This is a 2011 f150 Lariat.

Just got a new 2011 Ford Explorer and the Sync my ride has been a gong show at best. Have returned the car twice to my Ford Dealer and first time they could NOT perform the upgrade. I think the Ford Service Department is more frustrated with Sync My Ride than we are as they are getting numerous complaints.

• My GPS on Sunday took 13 mikes before it would even show a Map, let alone directions to where I was going

• GPS asks for the street first????

• Some times my iPhone4 connect and other times it does not.

• The channel selector on the steering wheel sometimes takes "minutes" to change radio channel

• Voice/Hands Free system is a TV Comedy Show

• The phone support staff are AWESOME, and they too admit to many, many problems

• Plan to take my brand new ford back next week, because of this bad, bad sync/bluetooth system

I work with people every day with the Ford Sync system. I have discovered there are a number of people with connectivity problems on their iPod touch or iPhone. From what I could gather from posts online, Microsoft and Apple are pointing fingers at each other regarding why the connection to SYNC occasionally causes problems. Bluetooth is what it is, it's a low power short range way to connect devices wirelessly. Often the system can get out of phase and cause connection problems. Here's what you can do to set things back to normal...

While in your car with the radio on, go to the Phone Menu and select "System Settings" on a vehicle with the LED screen on the top of the center console. Turn the turning knob to select "Delete Device." Find your device by name and then press OK to delete the device. Go to the Settings icon, then go to the General icon, then select Bluetooth connectivity area. Delete "Sync" from your list of connected devices (tap on the blue arrow, it takes you to another screen and then select "Forget Device." Then, power your phone completely off, or pull the battery for at least a minute, then replace the battery. Restart your phone.

Now turn off your vehicle. Open the hood. Loosen the bolt holding the black battery cable clamp assembly and remove it from the battery for about 1 minute or more. Then replace it and retighten the clamp. Close the hood.

Return to your vehicle and start it up. Let the vehicle run for at least four or five minutes. This reboots the electrical systems from factory specs. Turn it off again and open the door (this completely powers down the vehicle). Start the vehicle back up.

Go to the Phone Menu, go to Bluetooth Devices, and select "Add Device." It will prompt you to press OK to begin Pairing a device. Go to your phone, to the Settings icon, then select General, then Bluetooth Settings. Look for the Handsfree Button and let it become a Sync button. Touch this button and another screen appears acksing for the 6-digit Pin that is being displayed on your center console. Enter that number and push "Pair" on your phone. Within a few seconds the Sync system will respond that it has connected. Be sure to activate the 911 Assist when prompted, push OK to set the phone as the Primary Phone and then OK to allow the phone book to download. It may take up to three minutes for the phone book to download.

Now when you push the "Voice" button on the steering wheel, you can say "Bluetooth Audio" to access your iPhone music (or go to the Pandora app and turn it on). The music should start within a few seconds, if not push the Voice button again and say "Play." If you push the Voice button again you can also say "Shuffle" (to have the system automatically pick the next song) or a variety of other commands (check you Sync manual for details.)

For some, it may be easier to transfer your music files to a USB flash drive. Then you can push the Voice button and say "USB." The Sync System will go to the USB to start playing music. You should be able to push the Voice button to call out "Play Artist The Beatles (of which ever artist you prefer)" and the system will find and play those songs. The command "Play All" resumes playing from the whole library on the USB stick. If you press the hard button on the console to access AM/FM or CD, you can return to the USB by pushing the AUX button. The iPhone streams better sounding music via Bluetooth. When you use a USB cable to connect your iPhone to the Sync System it defaults to the Mp3 format and has a lesser sound quality, but sometimes this connection will allow you to find music via voice commands (especially with the iPhone 4 or 4S).

Which iPhone do you have? Is the phone's software up-to-date? Do you use Wi-Fi on your phone? What is the source of your music? Some self-recorded music cannot be "read" by Sync -- this would ruin the ability to use voice commands. Apple encrypts some of the iTunes music so it can't be copied and replayed... On you MKX... does it have the MyFord Touch? Was it upgraded with the new software?

I have I-Phone 4.....version 5.1.1...latest update...and I use wi-fi when it is available...The source of my music is I-tunes... but some are CD music discs which I donloaded into Itunes on my IMAC, then syncing with my I-Phone.. And my Lincoln MKX has the My Touch, with the latest Update.. I checked all of that because of the problems.... I had noticed on occasion that when trying to use Bluetooth with my I-Phone on MY Touch... I saw the message on the bottom left on My Touch screen that said """" indexing """, but then eventually said failed... So its possible that '''''Indexing"""" ( and failing ) id causing the problem... But then how is that fixable >>

Thx for the response
