Exporting a slideshow from Photos 5.0 in 4K

Is it really true that Apple does not allow any 4K export at this time?

As it would have been usual and necessary 10 years ago?

Who needs that too?

Or does everyone here only have 1080 monitors?

Yes, you can only export at a small resolution from an Apple Slideshow. You would have to use a project extension to support 4K export (if there is one available at the AppStore).

You may want to create the slideshow video in iMovie or Final Cut Pro.

Apple's free Keynote can also export a video at a larger resolution. I just exported a test slideshow from keynote with a very good quality.

It is a pity, that the Places Theme of iPhoto Slideshows has not made it to Photos. It has been great for slideshows with travel shots.

Most of the new slideshow themes are having too much distracting animations. Our audience cannot concentrate o viewing the photos. And the themes with several photos per slide are cropping the photos, without giving us a change to decide how we want them to be cropped.

When I use the slideshows at all, I am sticking with the themes, that do not crop the photos.

Thank you for your kind thoughts.

From time to time, I have fashion projects where Apple's Photos 'Magazine' theme works absolutely brilliantly.

Apple has put a lot of good work into these themes but still castrates them in export limitations.

Currently, I export 1080 and transpose this to FCPX in 4K (with a trick it works).

But of course it becomes blurred (sharpening and noise mixing useless).

So Apple Photos turns out to be a completely non-Pro tool IMO.

Because of senseless restrictions that simply do not fit into the present.

I was hoping that there was a hack somewhere that would open up currently hidden options.

I can't believe software designer didn't think to 4K. Every professional photographer works with much higher resolutions and most have better monitors. And Apple products. And uhmmm Photos?

The Apple Slideshows are lacking in several ways, not only the inabiltiy to to save a 4k Video.

I need the slideshows to present the pictures of my travels, and need to be able to include the titles, the dates, and the locations for each photo. None of the themes offers to include this information automatically. I have to create a title slide for each photo in the slideshow and copy and paste the information into the title slide. And the title slides cannot be formatted properly. And if I rearrange the slides I have to start over with the title slides, what a waste of time. Many of my photos are Live Photos, so I can show a fountain bubbling or animals moving, but the slideshow will turn the Live Photos into still frames. It is now five years ago, that Live Photos have been introduced with the iPhone 6, but we still cannot show them off to our friends and family in a slideshow.

I do not mind so much, that exported slideshow videos are limited, because I prefer to present a slideshow directly from my Mac, so I can step single slides back and forth and comment on the photos.

It is obvious that with a new approach (Photos) one was conjured up new compromise situations again.

I think Apple really wanted to implement a new open, efficient and unlimited library structure, and in many aspects they succeeded. The speed at which huge libraries are processed is simply breathtakingly good.

And I have to agree: the slideshow issue and themes are really still amateurishly solved. Also all other available slideshow programs are really silly and completely inflexible. I love FCPX, at this GUI level Apple could also develop a fantastic editable workflow for slideshows. Are there no good software designer or team leaders in California anymore?

The existing templates (e.g. Magazine, Sliding Panels) are really high level, but iPhoto had more great ideas implemented!

Especially for travel documentation I remember geotag/GPS sorted travel presentation, something really revolutionary that has never been seen since.

Apple's add-on architecture hasn't been taken up by external developers either, so it's all very sad in this sector. I assume that the iPhoto development team had left Apple because some braggart new development manager for Photo scared off these good people. A sad chapter. If there's anyone who knows more to know, I'm interested.
