High CPU usage on Logic Pro X

Hi, I’m looking for advice on how to get my CPU usage down. Recently it’s become a nightmare to even work on the smallest project, within no time it starts glitching and overloading (although I don’t seem to get the actual overload message recently).

I have a MacBook Pro late 2015, 2.9ghz i5 16GB ram. Running Mojave as Catalina doesn’t work with some of my plugins.

Ive recently started using the Samsung t5 SSD external drive for sample libraries etc to take some of the load. And my MacBook has 314gb available of 500gb. So plenty of room. I’ve tried everything on logic (almost always having to run at 1024 buffer size), updated logic, freezing tracks where I can etc.. but still really high cpu. Never had the problem this bad until recently. Could it be something wrong with the computer? Is there a solution? Any help would be amazing

thanks

After writing this i tried changing the logic multithreading setting to just playback, and that’s helped a lot. I think where i had been running an old version of logic where this wasn’t a feature, and after recently updating logic it had then been on ‘playback and live tracks’ and maybe this tipped it over the edge. But seems to be workable now. Still relatively high, but workable. I did think it was weird that having recently used Ableton on the same laptop without problems. So yeah, kind of sorted I think. Thanks for your reply
