Metronome off during playback

Hey, for some reason when tracking guitar, GarageBand is recording the audio of the click to the main track (the same track as the guitar) and it’s in the playback which is obviously not ideal. How do I turn this off after the fact , but still use the metronome while recording

Set up goes guitar - mixer - mac.

when I use the metronome provided by garage band I cannot toggle It on and off with recording, instead the click track signal is being recorded as a part of the guitar track. The two are as one.

You have to see if your "mix interface" has a monitor output so that you can isolate the metronome from the main mix.

If the guitar is going straight to the mac, why bother with the mixing interface? I think you need to diagram things so you know exactly what is going where. It sounds like the mixing interface is sending a signal back into the Mac that is getting recorded onto the track.
