IPOD nano 1st generation from 2006

I recently found my old Ipod Nano from 2006. I tried to connect it to my PC (windows 8.1 / 64bit).

It charges fine but my PC doesn't see it anywhere. I look in the device manager and I can't see it connected.

I have tried quite a few things.. Naturally when I run the device sync tests from itunes it doesn't see the USB... see below.

I've done quite a bit of troubleshooting and now I have my IPOD Nano 1st Gen connecting to my PC.

The first error I have now is when I connect the IPOD 1 get a "there is a problem with this drive. Scan the drive now and fix it".

When I select scan and fix it then tells me

"do you want to scan and fix **** IPOD (E:)?"

Scan and fix recommended

Continue without scanning

so I select scan and fix.

It then says we have found errors on this drive. To prevent data loss repair this drive now.

I select repair and it then tells me the disk is write protected (?!!)

In iTunes it also tells me it cannot be synced as the disc is writ protected.

This is so annoying. Can anyone please help ??
