The save failed due to out of memory or disk space

I have a MacBook Pro and ran into this error message after trying to save a document. After searching online, I went into my Disk Utility and found two internal disks: the Macintosh HD (which had plenty of space and the remaining space I thought I had my computer) and Apple SSD which was full. The error came up when saving to a flash drive which has plenty of space and I thought I had plenty of space on my computer too. Can anyone tell me what the cause of this problem is and how to fix it? I've already run diagnostics on both internal disks and came up with nothing. Thanks!

If I'm understanding you right, you're getting an error telling you that you're out of memory or storage when you attempt to save a file. I'm happy to help you get this figured out.

It sounds like you've already determined that you have enough space on your Mac and your external drive to save the file. The error you're receiving may be related to something other than a lack of storage space, especially being that the error mentions "memory". Which app are you using when you try to save the file? Try saving a file using a different app and see if you get the same error. This could help narrow things down further.

Next, restart your Mac and then try saving the file again: How to turn your Mac on or off. After that see if you're able to save the file while booted into safe mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac.
