Apple Music not adding songs to library

Recently, when I go to add music (have an Apple Music subscription) to any of the three devices below it will show the music as added, only for that music not to be actually added.

Search Apple Music- Add to Library- Added. Switch search to Your Library and then moments later, that music and the cloud download icon vanish.

Up until recently, without making any obvious changes outside of normal OS update, Apple Music/Icloud Library has worked beautifully.

I have rebooted all three devices, updated all three to the latest OS (MBP had not received last week's security update). Turned iCloud off and on with MBP.

Meanwhile, if I rate a song on my iPhone or iPad, I see that change almost instantly on my MBP.

Searched the forums without finding any similar threads- one possible solution in an old thread suggested a need to "ok" a new terms & conditions. I'm not seeing this anywhere.

Any idea how I can resolve this? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thank you for reaching back out to Apple Support Communities.

Since it is happening on all devices, have you tried with your devices connected to a different Wi-Fi network?  Here’s how to Connect to Wi-Fi on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Appreciate your reply.

  • Apple Music family subscription is current- I checked my Account info earlier today- card on file has not expired
  • I do not get an Error when I try to add a song. I'll use my MBP and Music.app as an example- I search on a band or album, click "add to library" and then that icon goes in circles for a bit. Instead of turning into a cloud icon, it pauses and then bring up the "add to library" icon again. It's going somewhere.....like it's trying to add......but then coming back. In my library, that song or album does not appear.

Just to reiterate- this has all worked for months or years, however long I've has AM- somewhere in the past few weeks it has stopped. Wish there was some error panel or similar I could view to understand what it's not working.

Logged into safe mode on my 2018 MBP. Opened Music app and the same behavior was exhibited (showed added for a few seconds, then not). Rebooted my iPad and iPhone 8+, multiple times- same thing.

Tried Apple Music w/ my family- added Norah Jones to wife, Muzz to daughter, Whitesnake to son. All seemed to work, and could see those in their respective libraries on their devices.

To put in perspective, have my iPad set to download all added music- so I click "add" and it says they are downloading. Look at the playlist and those songs now show with a "+" next to them again?!

How do I figure out which device is the one causing all these issues?

Hi mclaugh444444444,

Thank you for reaching back out to Apple Support Communities.

You mentioned that you have a part of an Apple Music Family subscription. Do the other members of the family plan have the same issue? Using the example you provided for your MacBook Pro, have you tried to add the songs in safe mode?  Here’s how to How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Here are a few quick notes about safe mode:

- Safe mode often looks and responds a bit different than what you're used to.

- Safe mode does not load everything that normally loads during a regular startup.

- Safe mode is a bit slower while loading and during normal operation as well.

- These differences can be cleared-up by a normal restart.

Test to see if you are able to add the songs via safe mode. Restart and test again in typical mode. Just booting into safe mode in and of itself can resolve some issues.

Hope that helps. Reach out with any questions.

Best Regards!
