how to connect/disconnect egpu correctly in catalina

I have a mac mini and have just purchased a Razer Core X eGPU with a Radeon WX 4100 in it. It works great although the eGPU fan will continually run even when not in use so I feel the need to disconnect it at night or when i know I wont need to use it.

Question is how are you meant to disconnect and then reconnect correctly in Catalina? Right clicking the eGPU icon in the top menu bar will allow me to disconnect, although once disconnected if i turn off the eGPU I still get a warning saying it wasnt disconnected properly.

Conversley if it is disconnected but still ON, how are you meant to tell the computer to connect to the eGPU as the icon is not in the menu bar?
