eGPU not detected in Big Sur

My eGPU was playing decently nice with Catalina but is not completely unrecognized after updating to Big Sur. Rebooting either device, cycling power, nor connection work.

It (Gigabyte RX 580 Gaming Box) is on Apple's list of officially supported eGPUs: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208544
The main machine is a 13-inch, 2017 MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3

Again, note that everything was working an hour ago on Catalina, so hardware failures can be ruled out.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.0

I fixed this by disconnecting and re-connecting each of the cables several times, including power from the wall to the eGPU. Not clear what the issue was.
