ipad Pro 10.5 reboots every time screen cover is closed

I recently purchased an ipad Pro 10.5 that has worked flawlessly until I bought a case to protect it. Every time the screen cover is closed (or as soon as it gets close to the screen) the white apple screen comes on and the ipad takes several minutes to restart. Somehow the cover is causing the ipad to reboot instead of just putting it to sleep. The case/cover is not the apple brand cover but there are thousands of positive reviews for the one I bought and I can't imagine its an issue with the cover itself. Any ideas what might be going on?

If your 10.5 iPad Pro works normally, without this case, then the fault lies with case and the case design.

Something with the case/case design is making your iPad malfunction.

After reading the reviews of this case, I strongly believe and I am convinced it could be the extra strong magnets in the smart cover causing the issues AND/OR the non-breathable, at all, very hard plastic of the backcase.

iPads need to “breathe” and be able to vent out some of their generated heat.

If you just purchased this case, I would just return this case and look for something different and better and a little more expensive that has some heat dissipation, “breathe-ability”.

I you want to spend good money on a great case for any iPad, look at cases from ZUGUcase.

I own one for all my iPads and they are very well made, designed, durable, protective and breathable cases.

You purchased a fairly expensive iPad Pro. Protect it in a high quality, good quality case.

What iPad Pro cover did you purchase?

If it is not for the exact model/s of iPad, the magnets for the smart cover maybe in the wrong position and maybe causing issues with your iPad.

Also, some cases do not let an iPad “breathe” and allow heat to escape causing an iPad to heat up too much and/or overheat causing the iPad to shutdown on its own.

Yeah, I've done hard resets and even did a full erase and reset just to verify that I didn't just have some strange setting turned on. Nothing makes a difference. I just talked to apple support and they have also never heard of this problem... So I guess I'm the lucky first in this case. I'm just going to return it and try to get another one.

You are correct, I'm sure a higher quality case is a good idea. I do however find it hard to believe that a case with over 12,000 positive reviews could be fundamentally flawed. Maybe I got a bad copy of the case and I will be contacting the manufacturer to see what they think. My real purpose in posting here was to ask if this could be an issue with the ipad itself (much more expensive problem than a bad case). I've searched all over and can't find any examples of my specific issue but I find it hard to believe that I'm the only one that has ever experienced this.
