Desktop larger than screen area (i.e. not fully displayed)

I plugged in a second monitor and the edges of the desktop aren't displayed, as if everything was slightly zoomed. I know that parts that aren't displayed are there, because I can click on the top menu, display half of the dock at the bottom, etc. See attached picture below...

I tried different resolutions, I checked zoom settings, but nothing helps... Any ideas?

This very monitor served me well without a problem on Windows. Another (smaller) monitor worked well a 2nd monitor for my MacBook setup and it worked just fine.

Hello bart_22,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to use an external display as expected with your MacBook Pro, as it doesn't look correct, even after trying some steps. To help with this, please see if the steps in this Apple resource help with your situation:

That helped! My monitor's input was set to HDMI TV mode, changing it to HDMI PC fixed the issue.

I used DVI cable for my Windows PC, that's why I never saw the issue there. When I tried HDMI cable, the issue appeared there too, so definitely not Mac related. The article you sent me mentions the input setting. Thanks a lot!
