I cannot attach photos to emails help please

I have over 11000 images in my Photos, when i try to email one of them I click the attach button yet it shows only about 50 / 60 images. Any ideas please?

I am able to drag and drop but that way i find a bit 'untidy'

Surely i should be able to do exactly as it says here.....

Can you tell us more about how you are trying to mail photos?

Are you using the Mail.app or a different mail client?

Is your Photos Library your System Photo Library? Open the Photos.app and go to "Photos Preferences > General":

  • At the top of this panel the option "Use as System Photo Library" should be greyed out. If it is not, click it. Otherwise the the photo browser will be using a different photo library.
  • Check the second Photos > Preferences tab: "Photos Preferences > iCloud". If you are using iCloud Photos and "Optimise Storage", it is not possible to see all photos in the Photos browser, because many of the photos will only be in icloud.

For users of iCloud Photos it will easier to share the photos directly from Photos instead from mail. Select the photos you want to mail in Photos, then click the Share ⇧ button in the toolbar. In the Share menu select "Mail". If Mail is not available as a share option, you need to make Mail your Default Mail Reader in the "Mail > Preferences > General".

Hi again, i've obviously not explained myself.

I want to send an email, i compose it and decide to attach one single image.

I click ion the Photos browser button (top right of compose window) and get nothing, except empty folders.

I can drag and drop but i don't like that method.

The Photos browser button is there for a reason i believe.

Thank you anyway.

Photos can't be mailed , rather you have to compose a mail ( use command and N keys ) , and fill up the credentials to send mail https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mail/mlhlp1121/mac

The people complete data their mail address should be already added in the address book application of Mac see these articles https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/contacts/adrb7e5aaa2a/mac

https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/contacts/adrbk1080/12.0/mac/10.15

Also the iCloud photo library and its preferences should be set see these articles https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT204264

https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/photos/pht5156cc968/4.0/mac/10.14

Regarding attaching photos , compose a new mail click on drop down arrow and click on photo , if you are using track pad , move three fingers from top left corner and move diagonally to right corner of the trackpad , all the photos will get selected then drag and drop those photos in compose mail window , fill up the credentials and send mail to the recipient .

Make sure you are using the correct format of photos that are to be attached https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207022

See some screen shots .

Also the mail application might be corrupted create a new test user account and configure mail application once again see these articles https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT204443

Which second last image you are talking about , the method you posted in your question has a draw back , when you click on attach button the complete photo library will get attached , when the recipient opens the mail and view that photo library folder ( it depends thousands of photos are saved in system photo library folder of photo application ) , he might not be able to view the photos , it will be just in a folder form .

Hi Speedbird1,

I see that you're having trouble viewing more than 50-60 photos when you use the Photo Browser button from the toolbar on a message. I know what a convenient tool this is to use; I'd like to help. In the window that opens for you to select photos, is it possible that Favorites or a specific album is selected to view, rather than all of Photos? The Photos and Albums selections should each have an arrow next to them to expand the selections; I'd recommend verifying all looks well there.

If you continue to have trouble, take some time to test for the behavior in a new user account and let me know what you find: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Best Regards.

There are various methods to attach photos , the one you posted is easy .

A third method is open mail application , compose a new mail ( use command N keys ) , minimise the main mail window .

Again open photo application , click on first photo and hold shift key and click on last photo the photos are selected .

Then drag and drop photos in the mail compose window , fill up the mail credentials and click on send .

léonie

the important bit for me was........

If you are using iCloud Photos and "Optimise Storage", it is not possible to see all photos in the Photos browser, because many of the photos will only be in icloud.

I do have all my images in iCloud so that answers that one.

Also the bit about sending an image directly from within the Photos app using the 'share button' was also spot on. My default email client was Outlook so did not appear in the share options, so i changed default to Mail and it worked exactly as described.

Unfortunately my preferred email client is Outlook so i can't use the 'share button' in Photos anyway.

At least I now know.

Thank you very much léonie
