Apple ID mixup

There have been many instances where someone tries to Facetime me but if I decline or don't answer the call gets routed to some gentleman that I do not know who answers the call. I have no idea who he is, but this has happened often. How do I confirm that my Apple ID is not being used elsewhere or has been mixed up with someone else? This happened last week, and again today.

Its unlikely anyone can share your phone number.

Make sure your "Can be Reached At" email addresses and number are correct for your Apple ID, and make sure whoever Facetime's you is using one of those addresses or number.

Unless the other party by mistake added your number to their Apple ID for some reason, this is a very strange occurrence.

Have you ever sold or given away an Apple device and forgot to sign out of your Apple ID? If so, then its possible that device is still logged in, and able to get Facetime calls to your Apple ID.

Unless you are sharing your Apple ID with someone, or someone has a "Can be Reached by Facetime at" address that is the same as yours, this is not possible.

How do you know someone else is picking up?

Do you share your Apple ID with anybody that has another Apple device?

Whoever is calling you, needs to make sure when they Facetime you they are using your Apple ID email address or one set on your account as "Can be reached by Facetime at"

If you delete your Apple ID, you lose access to some of your data, and all prior purchases. Try doing a name change on your current Apple ID to see if that makes a difference. Note the restrictions in the article.

Apple ID Name Change.

What to do after you change your Apple ID or password - Apple Support    I suggest doing this before you change your Apple ID or password.

I have not shared my ID out with anyone, and I have changed my password. The only other possibility is if they also share my phone number???

I can confirm someone else is picking up because the family/friends who have called me and have been routed to him come back and ask me who he is and report back to me when it happens. He doesn't speak English when they've tried asking him how or why he answered a call intended for me, they don't get much of a response. I'm sure he's confused as much as I am!
