The recording should have gone to your Photos app on the iPad. Just incase you might have missed a step here are the instructions for creating a screen recording: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207935

A step often overlooked is to press and hold the screen record button, don't just tap it. When you press and hold you get the option to turn the microphone on. After toggling the microphone you can then tap to start recording. When you are finished tap the red record oval in the upper right corner of the screen or go back to the Control Center to stop. Once stopped, the recording will go directly to your Photos app.

Give it several tries before committing a lot of time to your screen recording project.
