Hi

Thanks, yes that does answer my question, but Apple notes would be so much better if there was a button you could press that just started the recording (like notability) instead of having to go into another app and then copying that into your notes.

Hi Philkew999,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're asking if you can record audio while using notes to take notes, correct? If so, we would love to help. You should have no trouble using the Voice Memos app, or a third party app of your choice to record audio while using the Notes app.

Use Notes on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Use the Voice Memos app

If you're looking to record audio to create a new note in the Notes app, you would only be able to create that audio using Voice Memos, and then you can copy that memo into your note in the Notes app. Simply record your audio using Voice Memos, then tap your recording and tap the (...) menu, and choose Copy. Open your note in Notes, and long-press to use Paste.

Please let us know how it goes. We're always happy to help.

Cheers!

Hi Philkew999, you can create this facility yourself with a simple two action shortcut created in the Shortcuts app.

In use, in a note in the Notes app, tap the More button (⋯), then tap Send a Copy. Tap Notes Audio Recording.

Tap the screen to start recording. When done, tap the screen to finish recording.

Select the current note to save to. Add text if desired. Tap Save. The audio recording is added to your note.

To create the shortcut, open the Shortcuts app, then tap "+" from the All Shortcuts screen. Type "record audio" in the action list search field. Tap the result to add it to the Shortcuts editor. Type "share with apps", then tap the result to add it as well. In the editor tap the App text field of the Share with Apps action. Tap Notes to add it from the selection menu.

Tap the Settings button to the left of Done in the upper right of the screen. Tap Details. Switch on Show in Share Sheet. Tap Privacy. Switch on Microphone and Share extension. Tap the text field in the upper left of the screen and type in "Notes Audio Recording" to give the shortcut a name. If you wish, tap the icon to the left of the text you just entered to select a different color and glyph. Tap Done. Tap Done in the upper right of the screen to complete the creation of the shortcut. Quit the shortcuts app.
