MacBook doesn’t recognize keyboard or trackpad.

My 2017 MacBook Pro (non-Touch Bar) doesn’t recognize its keyboard or trackpad. I have a USB mouse and can boot into recovery mode, but it just shows a diagram of how to turn on a Magic Keyboard. I don’t have access to a USB keyboard and I don’t think that it’s a hardware issue, but I don’t know what to do.

The trackpad also still clicks, something it wouldn’t do if the computer was off.

Thanks for posting to the Apple Support Communities, and I understand there are issues with detecting the trackpad and keyboard with the Mac. I'll do what I can to help.

Here are some suggestions:

Restart your Mac from the Apple () menu then Restart.
Since it might be the settings for choosing the trackpad and keyboard, try resetting the NVRAM/PRAM: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac
Reset the SMC that control power to both the trackpad and keyboard: How to reset the SMC of your Mac
See if you're able to get into macOS Recovery to reinstall macOS: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery
