MacBook won’t boot up?

Hello,

As of around a few hours ago, my MacBook Air (not entirely sure which model, possibly 2015/2016) has stopped booting up properly, despite the fact it was working as normal less than an hour before. When I try to boot it up, I see any of the following three things:

*Most commonly, a no-entry/circle with a line through it symbol instead of the Apple logo.

*A blank black screen,

*The Apple logo, with the absence of the loading bar, which then reverts to the aforementioned no-entry symbol.

I am desperate to get it working again and am very concerned about my files on the computer, as I am studying at university and have an important assignment coming in the weeks to come. I have tried to use recovery mode to repair the hard disk with the First Aid function, but it either crashes when I attempt to utilise it, or an error about no slices being found is displayed. I am stumped and very worried about this issue, so if there is a solution anyone can suggest, please let me know,

Thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I have looked at the link provided and have inferred that I need to reinstall a version of macOS. I have a general question regarding this-if I reinstalled the version macOS that came installed on my MacBook in question (which is Maverick, if I’m not mistaken), would I lose all of my data and apps stored on my computer? I’m just asking this as I see this could be a potential solution to the problem I am facing, but am very concerned about losing my data and apps.

Also, I regrettably don’t have any Time Machine backups for this MacBook, just so you all know.

Thank you.
