iMovie uploads to Youtube

How can I fix this issue with uploading vertical videos created in iMovie to YouTube? When I want to watch it on my phone in portrait mode, and I click full screen on the side the video is tiny. What do I need to change in iMovie for my portrait uploads to be full screen when viewing on YouTube?

I take it that what you are seeing is a portrait video displayed on a 16:9 widescreen, which makes the portrait look small with black bars on each side to make the display fill the 16:9 screen.

If the above is correct, you can use the crop tool arrows in iMovie to rotate the portrait configuration sideways to fill the 16:9 screen. Then share it out and rotate it right side up again with QuickTimePlayer. That will make your portrait video display larger.
