Mac mini stuck on internet recovery mode

Hello all,

i recently got the base model 128gb Mac mini 2018 and I liked the idea of connecting a external ssd given how fast they are nowadays and it’s much cheaper than upgrading to the second model in the line anyways so I thought I to make an external SSD my main boot drive so I downloaded Mac OS Catalina and I formatted my drive so it supports the install and for some reason I ended up installing an updated version of Mojave now I saw a YouTube video which states that after installing the OS on the ssd u can format and use the internal storage so what i did i created a bootable Mac OS Catalina install flash drive in case something goes wrong which it did and I said I would format both drives in recovery mode and start fresh erasing both operating systems and then installing it from the bootable drive to the external SSD maybe that was my mistake formatting the internal drive has me in internet recovery mode which isn’t connecting to my portable wifi router which has no Ethernet port unfortunately and when trying a lot of different fix’s it connects but stops after a few mins and states an error 2003f something now I just wanna boot my bootable installation and install it on the sdd but I can’t seem to do the with suggested keyboard shortcuts note the I’m using a Mac mini 2018 which has the T2 security chip and I’m also using a normal windows wireless keyboard So maybe that’s why I can’t get the shortcuts to work and install from the bootable flash drive I don’t quite know anyways I’m stuck on internet recovery mode and I can’t seem to boot my bootable flash drive Am I doing something wrong should I press any other button combo is it the time or way I’m pressing them note that before erasing the internal hard I managed to boot recovery mode is it my keyboard or is it that fact if any has the answer to this problem I would be really thankful.

The T2 security mode will prevent booting from USB drives unless the setting has been changed to allow booting from USB. To change the setting requires booting into Recovery Mode.

If you cannot access Internet Recovery Mode over WiFi, then you will need to find a way to connect the computer directly to Ethernet to either change the T2 security setting to allow USB booting or to reinstall macOS. You can try invoking Internet Recovery Mode using Command + Option + R.

Try using a wired USB keyboard if the other keyboard gives you problems.
