Apple Music Data Use

I have a problem with the Apple Music app on my iPhone 8. In an average month I normally use about 9-10GB of data but recently my Apple Music app is burning huge amounts of data.

My data allowances reset on 13th April (4 days ago), and I've gone through 5GB of data already despite not using Apple Music once in that time. In addition due to the current lockdown I've been on my wifi all the time in that period.

Has anybody else had a problem with their phones burning a lot of data on Apple music?

Thanks

iPhone 8

Hey stevehall116,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! I see that your Apple Music is using up your cellular data over your Wi-Fi network and I'd like to help.

One place that I highly recommend you check is under Settings > Music > Cellular Data. Is this option currently set to 'On'? If yes, try disabling this option and test it out for a few days. Let me know if you're continuing to experience the same issue. You can read more about this on the online guide here: Subscribe to Apple Music on iPhone

Be sure to check out the section that says 'Choose cellular data options for Music from that resource.

I'll be looking forward to the results, cheers!

Hi Jameson_H,

If I turn mobile data off for the Music app it doesn't use any data of course but that's treating the symptom not the cause. That would mean every time I want to listen to music when I'm away from home. I'll have to go and turn data back on then remember to turn it off again.

Until 3 months ago I never had a problem with my Apple Music app burning through my data like this so something has clearly changed.

I'd like to be able to use my phone as it's intended to be used not having to keep turning mobile data on and off.
