Why is my microphone not working post ios 13.4.1 update?

I have done a full reset (twice) and gone through all of the suggested fixes and it still will not work.  I have also had a problem with the wifi button greying out.  Can anyone help? My ear pods are working fine and I have removed all Bluetooth devices and just had to connect my pods so that I can use my phone. I have tested it using WhatsApp, voice memo and video and absolutely nothing. I am absolutely baffled. This only started after I did the first full reset last night as the WIFI button was greyed out and I did all of the smaller less invasive resets to no avail so then wiped it totally. Now the wifi is still playing up but the microphone isn't recording at all (yet it does with ear pods).

Please can anyone help or give me some clue as to if and when this can be fixed?

My daughter had similar issues today. Mic not working with voice recorder, the button was there but you could not push it. When making voice calls the speaker phone button was greyed out. When using facetime people could not hear and the called failed. I shutdown the phone a couple of times and waited 2mins. Then while restarting I pressed Vol up release, Vol Down release then holding power button. I guess this clears cached data. Finally in Settings, did a Reset All Settings not the full Erase All. Once it finished rebooting, the problem was solved. Her version is 13.4.1, iPhone 7.

I have got to the bottom of this after some time and having replaced the microphone/charging port to no avail. So it is the microphone IC chip which is on the motherboard. The part itself is relatively cheap but it is obviously a more specialised fix that has to be done under microscope and specialised tools. I am livid as it is an Apple known issue with 6, 7 and 8 models and all of the variations.

I would say that anyone who has had Wi-Fi/microphone and issues with Bluetooth connection this is the most likely fault. So far I have been quoted £85 for a fix on a £5 part.

I hope this all helps some of you out there.

I have found that the problem is somehow related to the 13.4.1 update for 7 and 8 and plus models. The only fix for this is to have the IC audio chip replaced. This is because the connections are so microscopic and so is the solder on this chip that for some reason the connections when doing the update cause it to get warm enough to break these solder connections.

I have managed to get mine repaired for £50 but I had a quote of £105!!

I was really annoyed as this was only a 1 year old phone.

Hope this helps

So I don't have a resolution but I do have an update which might help. I followed the link that was posted by becky_s22 and got a reference code to call Apple at my convenience. I gave the freephone number a call this morning and spoke to a member of the support team. I explained everything that I had done to try and resolve the issue, including coming on here. He did a remote diagnostic run on my handset and that came back as no faults. He was able to give me a list of places that are Apple approved outlets (not necessarily and Apple store) that were open (via phone due to Covid-19) that I could speak to and arrange for it to be repaired. I have to say he was a really nice and helpful guy and although he wasn't able to fix it, I must say I was really happy with the level of support and his customer service abilities.

I gave the nearest outlet to me a call and was able to talk through the issue on the phone once again. He informed me that to get the matter investigated and fixed I would need to raise it through the Apple support website and arrange for it to be posted to them. The fix if it was for a part and the labour would be £180 and for a whole new unit if it couldn't be fixed would be £380. There current turn around via mail upon receipt is 5 working days and there would also be a £15 posting fee for it to be sent back.

I have decided against doing this as I really don't think that this is a reasonable cost. In fact the more research I have done into the matter (knowing that it can only be a hardware problem) has only heightened my indignation at this price. What me and my partner have decided to do is to try and replace the charging/microphone doc ourselves. My partner has a lot of experience with these types of things and has all of the tools required. So I have ordered a replacement part and we are going to do it. I have also done a lot of watching of different YouTube tutorials to ensure that it can be done safely without causing further damage.

I don't recommend this approach for those of you who don't have experience of doing something along these lines before but given the issues it does very much sound like it is this part that is faulty (it also has a receiver which explains issues with connecting to wifi). I will let you know how I get on and share the YouTube video and the retailer that I used for the parts.

Fingers crossed

same issue so annoying.. this sounds like another Apple trying to downgrade the battery so ppl can buy a new device. makes no sense to pay for the repair if the phone isn't even worth the cost. this started happening once did the software update. my other phone similar issue but it seems to come back. once i go with other OS like android, there's no turning back. apple needs to step up their game.
