View and access desktop when multiple files are open

When I have multiple files open - pages, emails, etc. I sometimes want to see the desktop. Is there an alternative to minimizing all of those that are open to view the desktop?

How do i navigate a large desktop stack? Apart from opening a separate Finder window, is there a method to navigate a large desktop stack that has more items than there is space on the desktop to accomodate? The fact that the over-spill of icons from one such occurrence simply gets displayed on top of existing folders, etc., almost feels like some kind of visual handling error.

Is it possible to move file between desktops? If so, how? Can I move a file from one desktop view to another? If so, how would I accomplish this? Thanks,

Shortest I can think of to come close is to click on Finder in the Dock then Hide others, or drag the icon for Desktop to the Right side of the Dock.
