Word found unreadable content...

I am receiving the above message when I try to open a Word document. The file type is .docx

The full message is "Word found unreadable content in "(file name).docx". Do you want to recover the contents of this document? If you trust the source of this document, click Yes."

Clicking yes results in this message: "Word experienced an error trying to open the file.

Try these suggestions.

* Check the file permissions for the document or drive.

* Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space.

* Open the file with the Text Recovery converter."

I tried all but the last option because I don't know what that is.

Any ideas? Thanks

You can reduce the PDF file size by using the Quartz Filter menu when saving the PDF from Preview:

ADDEMDUM: website obsolete.

With the highlighted filter I was able to reduce a 568 MB pdf file to 30 MB.

The file is named Reduce to 150 dpi average quality - STANDARD COMPRESSION.qfilter. Here's the content of the file:

Are you having this problem with any Word document or just one document? Did anything occur or change prior to this problem occurring which might have caused it? You might try reinstalling the Word app and see if that helps. Also you might visit the Microsoft user group's site and look for a similar problem there. Good luck.

The best solution was to open Time Machine to select the most recent version of the document that opened. It did not include the most recent few pages I created but I was able to reproduce those fairly easily.

Since the document is essentially a book of exercises for a class I teach, I saved each page as an individual pdf document and then dragged each one into a master pdf. If I did this again I would reduce the file size of some of the individuals because the master is quite large (733MB). Thankfully, I can get away with a large file size for this project. Just something to be aware of.
