Logic pro X trial installation error

Hi everyone,

I downloaded the installer for Logic pro X free 90 day trial and completed the prompts to conclude installation. Installation continues and files are written until the end after a few minutes and then a window pops up saying "The installation failed". Does anyone know why this could be? I have enough free storage. I did however delete the installer and download it again, but I doubt this is the issue. Would really like to get this installed so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi pieterlab,

I asked about the source of the installer because I observed the availability of the "same" Logic installer from untrusted sources. It looks like you got it from the right place.

Then my second question about a previous installation of Logic.

You say you never installed Logic before.

You downloaded the trial installer and what? Did you run it? If so how did you stop it?

Then you deleted the installer and download it again. This is unnecessary. You could have just rerun the same installer.

You said you had a storage problem. How much free space do you have now?

The part where we need more details on is:

I tried deleting everything manually and rebooting and reinstalling, but it did not work. However there were .plist and .bom files which seem to be related to logic which I could not delete before I rebooted as it says it is required by macOS.

What do you mean by "everything"?

Note: Since it is a 90 trial, i suspect a kind of timer of install flag stored somewhere. I'm not sure.

Hi WD,

Indeed I did download the installer, but like I said I deleted it before I ran it. This was because of a storage problem I was having caused by a plugin, which I consequently deleted completely and now I have about 100gb free space, so this is no problem.

Regarding: What do you mean by "everything"?

I deleted the installer file as well as all files related to logic which I determined to be installed at the same time as downloading the installer. Mostly found here:

Macintosh HD:Lbrary:Audio:Apple Loops:Apple

Macintosh HD:Lbrary:Audio:Impulse Responses

Macintosh HD:Lbrary:Application Support:Logic

Regarding your comment: "Note: Since it is a 90 trial, i suspect a kind of timer of install flag stored somewhere. I'm not sure."

I think this might be the case, only thing that I believe it could be, thats why I am kicking myself and trying to find a way to reinstall from scratch.

Quite bleak that I cannot resolve this issue.

If you or anyone else can suggest a way to solve this problem please let me know.

Thanks

If you didn't run the installer then you had nothing to delete. Even deleting the installer was not necessary.

Macintosh HD:Lbrary:Audio:Apple Loops:Apple
Macintosh HD:Lbrary:Audio:Impulse Responses
Macintosh HD:Lbrary:Application Support:Logic

The first two folders are not specific to Logic. The last one, I'm not sure.

Anything else was present in these folders?

I suggest you recreate these folders. Look in the trash to see if they are there.

I downloaded it from the official apple page with the link provided. I never installed a previous version of Logic before this, but I did delete the first installer I downloaded a few days ago (without ever actually going through the prompts and installing the software) as I had a storage problem. After sorting out the storage problem I again downloaded the installer from the above link and after initiating the installation process an error occurs right at the end. I have only used Garageband with a few downloaded AU plugins in the past. I am really not knowledgable on the subject, but I wonder if deleting all files related to logic and then redownloading and installing the software would be a good option. Any advice would be appreciated as I am not yet sure about actually purchasing Logic. Thanks

Alright, I tried installing just on a new user account and this also did not work. I have 125gb free space on my system drive. My only hypothesis is that it might be a kind of timer of install issue where I did not install the software fast enough after downloading the installer package. I'm not sure. Now I also do not want to purchase the full version from app store for fear installation will fail.
