Voice Memos in Mojave Won't Record with External Mic / sound card
Really dumb piece of software that only seems to work with the internal / built-in microphone(s) of the Mac. It does not pull the system preferences selected for external microphone input / audio interface; if external interface is selected in system preference, Apple Voice memos just crashes in hang cycle, change system preference back to built-in internal mic and it will works again (sometimes after a re boot). I suppose it is only meant to be a basic and simple recording app; but the lack of ability to use external interface is enough of a hassle as not to use it on Mac OS as you have to keep switching and rebooting from system preferences etc. Needs a fix Apple - come on - bring back the Jobs spirit!
Interestingly, I can use external Shure MV series mic on the iPhone/ iOS to record memos that, after being sync'd via iCloud, will playback via the external sound card of Mac OS, just won't record via it.
I wonder if the lack of support in Mac OS for external device recording is to do with copyright fears: perhaps that streams would be direct inputed and recorded via this in real time. But I find this silly as there is plenty of free software that can do this should you wish to record streams / content in real time. I just want to use my high quality mic array and interface and not have to bother changing inputs, especially when recording little notes to self or creating a scratching vocal recording or guide track to share with someone.
I find Apple's lockdown of clearly useful features a real hassle. If it is not deliberate it is just poor second rate coding. Either way I'd expect better.
