Voice Memos in Mojave Won't Record with External Mic / sound card

Really dumb piece of software that only seems to work with the internal / built-in microphone(s) of the Mac. It does not pull the system preferences selected for external microphone input / audio interface; if external interface is selected in system preference, Apple Voice memos just crashes in hang cycle, change system preference back to built-in internal mic and it will works again (sometimes after a re boot). I suppose it is only meant to be a basic and simple recording app; but the lack of ability to use external interface is enough of a hassle as not to use it on Mac OS as you have to keep switching and rebooting from system preferences etc. Needs a fix Apple - come on - bring back the Jobs spirit!

Interestingly, I can use external Shure MV series mic on the iPhone/ iOS to record memos that, after being sync'd via iCloud, will playback via the external sound card of Mac OS, just won't record via it.

I wonder if the lack of support in Mac OS for external device recording is to do with copyright fears: perhaps that streams would be direct inputed and recorded via this in real time. But I find this silly as there is plenty of free software that can do this should you wish to record streams / content in real time. I just want to use my high quality mic array and interface and not have to bother changing inputs, especially when recording little notes to self or creating a scratching vocal recording or guide track to share with someone.

I find Apple's lockdown of clearly useful features a real hassle. If it is not deliberate it is just poor second rate coding. Either way I'd expect better.

We regret since TC was bought by Behringer support is rubbish...So Voice Memos on the Mac has no audio preference options so I would assume it's using the sys prefs? The TC K48 is fine via all other apps inc QT just completed a load of recordings via QT which allows separate interface selection to the sys prefs. All other pro A/V apps from Apple and Adobe, Avid etc works with fine. It could be FW-TB issue with this software, so in due course...

I'll dig out a cheap Scarlett USB Focusrite interface and see if that is it. However, looking at a similar thread, it would seem Voice Memos does not allow separate audio device on Mac OS. Either way spent too much time on this, QT is more than adequate and I can set it to sync via iCloud docs instead.

Cheers Dialabrain! MacBook Pro Mid-2017 with 16GB and 1TB, Mojave 10.14.6, AKG414XLS via TC Konnekt 48 interface. Audio interface supplies phantom power and works fine with Logic version 10.4.8. So it is easy enough to record a note direct to Logic but I rather like the auto sync of notes to iCloud for reviewing with the iPhone on the go. The quality of the internal Apple mics, as good as they are at background noise cancelation etc, just isn't up there with the clarity of above not to mention it is always setup.

Set up works fine; just the software is restricted for some reason?
